October 4, 2011, 6 migrant workers coming from Pathontharni, Bangkok due to the flood were arrested by the police at Maelamong gate Mae Sot.
4 Burmese migrant workers
Later, the police from that gate sent them to Mae Sot by 300baht/person. However, the car driver who brought them, handed them over to a human-trifficker’s house. The trafficker (a Thai man) locked them up in his house with the guards. Then, he extorted them to pay 1,000baht each if they wanted to be free. Two of them namely Aung Aung and Htu Htu, who could pay, came to PVA for help. The hand phones owned by the rest of four detainees were confiscated by the trafficker after he sensed that they were calling outside for help. One of them named Ma Hay Mar Nay Win was slapped in the face in this case. PVA started to worry knowing the rest of the detainees were women as the sun was about to set. Therefore, it asked the Mae Sot police for help to get them out. Finally, all the women were saved in time. And, they were Ma Hay Mar Nay Win, Ma Nay Chi Win, Ma Yadanar Win and Ma Thae Thae Aung. Their parents, who were already reporting for their missing daughters at Mae Sot police station, came to PVA soon after. PVA finally handed them over to their parents in front of the village head.
