It’s hard to say “stealing other’s wife”

On February 5, 2012, Maung Arkar came to PVA and reported that his wife Ma Chaw Su (20) eloped with Maung Thu Rein.

After PVA and Overseas Irrawaddy Association OIA conducted an investigation in this regard, Maung Thu Rein and Ma Chaw Su were former lovers. Due to the domestic problem and homesickness, Ma Chaw Su approached Maung Thu Rein and asked for help. That was the reason for the formers lovers to be reunited in the end, according to Ma Chaw Su.

PVA and OIA told Maung Arkar not to take advantage or oppress his wife but to forgive her for what she had done in the past and treat her with respect. They also told Maung Thu Rein that stealing other people’s wife was wrong for both legal and religious perspectives. Therefore, both men and the wife were ordered to sign an agreement to avoid the same mistake for the future.

The physical violence against a woman

On February 3, 2012, PVA was reported that Nay Ye Min invaded into Daw Si Thu’s property and beat her with a stick. She sustained 9 stitches in her head in due course.

Daw Si Thu said, “I’ve been in Thailand for 13 years. I got married with a Thai man. I took care of my family on my own. I and Nay Ye Min became friends about a year ago. Last five months or so, we had an intimate relationship. My relationship with my Thai husband didn’t work out. So, I felt like I would like to depend on Nay Ye Min. On February 2, I found out that he went back to Myawaddy and met with his wife. That’s how I knew that he’s a married man. So I withdrew my agreement to sign the marital documents. I burnt down all the documents. On February 2, he came to my house and accused me that I stole his cell phone. I was mad at that point, and I tried to beat him with a stick. However, he grabbed the stick and beat me about 5 times with it in stead. He ran away as I fell.”

PVA brought both parties on February 5, and condemned Nay Ye Min for recklessly beating a woman. It also ordered him to pay for her medical costs. He finally signed an agreement to stay away from Daw Si Thu and her family.

The danger for the submissive girls

Ma Nwe Ni (19) was deceived by Win Naing aka Ah Qui (24), a married man with 2 children. He told her that he was single and would like to marry her, and she agreed to it. She finally found out that he was a married man. Therefore, she came to PVA on February 2, 2012 and asked for help.

Ma Nwe Ni said, “I met Win Naing by phone and fell in love with him 2 years ago. He never mentioned that he was married at that time. Therefore, I came back from Bangkok and got married with him. About a month later, I found out that he was married with 2 children. I don’t want to destroy his family for any reason. But, I want PVA’s intervention in this regard.”

PVA managed both Win Naing and Ma Nwe Ni to sign a divorce paper, and let Win Naing to pay for Ma Nwe Ni’s grievance. They both finally signed an agreement not to repeat the same mistake again.

Domestic violence must be stopped

PVA was reported that two sisters namely Ma Thuzar Aye and Ma Thuzar Nwe were violently punched by Ma Thuzar Nwe’s husband named Maung Myint Aye aka Joelay, by Ma Thuzar Aye, the elder sister on December 12, 2011.

Since it was a Muslim family, PVA approached an Islamic leader to join solving the problem. And, they could solve the problem successfully.

The Islamic leader preached Joelay about the sin and legal consequence of domestic violence. PVA also ordered him to sign an agreement not to repeat the same mistake again finally.

Involving in the domestic violence case

On November 30, 2011, after suffering from the physical abuse by her husband, Ma Thin Thin Myat came to PVA and asked for help to divorce her husband.

Ma Thin Thin Myat said, “We have a child together after we got married. He started to ignore me when the child was 4 months old. And, he left us later. Then he came back when my son was 6months old. I accepted him when he promised me not to do it again. But, he always abuse me like everyday ever since then. So, I decide to get a divorce for my own safety.”

When PVA interviewed with the husband named Ko Soe Tint, he confessed that he committed domestic violence against his wife, and he promised PVA that he would build up a better family life in the future by abandoning the domestic violence against his wife once and for all, from now on.

PVA educated him the negative consequence of domestic violence in all aspects of both legal and social perspectives. The wife also agreed to give him another chance. He finally signed an agreement promising not to repeat it again.

On November 23, 2011, PVA was reported that two lovers living at a quarter-line near Kunton factory escalated a verbal fight to a physical fight like beating and punching on part of the male counterpart.

When arrived there, PVA found out that girlfriend sustained bloods and bruises on the face, and her clothes were ripped off. Therefore, PVA brought them to the office for intervention.

The neighbors, Maung Aakar (21) and Ma Thandar (24), who were selling goods in the market, became lovers, according to them.

Ma Thandar said, “We became lovers 8months ago. He seems to be nice at first. Later, he borrowed money from me frequently. I did the best I could effort. He looks for trouble if I can’t. When my patience runs out, I decided to break up. He claims that he can’t when I tell him about it. The verbal fight in this regard led him to punch me. Therefore, I try to beat him back.”

PVA warned and educated Maung Arkar for his unacceptable behavior engaging a physical fight against a woman. It also let him to sign an agreement to stop his aggression against Ma Thandar further.

Two lovers namely Musa and Khin Moe Lwin agreed to get married. However, Musa demanded abortion from her, when Khin Moe Lwin had three months pregnant. Then, the abortion was unsuccessful as Musa ran away. Khin Moe Lwin finally came to PVA for help on February 15, 2011.

PVA brought Musa and warned him for his irresponsible behavior. He agreed to pay for her grievance by signing the agreement not to repeat the same mistake again.

Ma Tin Tin Khine and Maung Min Htun became lovers ending up living together while working at a clothing factory for two years. and, they decided to get married soon. However, when the girlfriend got pregnant, Maung Min Htun changed his mind and eloped with another woman named Ma Thin Thin Aye, who was working at the other clothing factory, by leaving her.

Therefore, Ma Tin Tin Khine requested PVA for help on November 7, 2010.

When PVA conducted the hearing for both parties, Maung Min Htun refused to take responsibility. PVA sent Ma Tin Tin Khine for medical report to the student clinic and found that she was really pregnant with him. It decided him to pay 12,000baht for her grievance by educating him that such irresponsible act was inappropriate and unethical.

PVA finally let both parties to sign a promissory note agreeing not to engage such mistake further.

The attempting of rape

On September 7, 2010 at 8pm Ma Tin Moe Swe (37) accompanied with a friend named Gyapu aka Ko Than Htwe went out to look for her husband, who hadn’t come back home from work. Gyapu took her on a bicycle. On the way, he invited her to get into a tent. Ma Tin Moe Swe realizing his real intention pushed him back when he tried to grab her, and ran away. At 10pm she had to ask a family in a tent for the temporary stay for the night since she lost her way home.

Ma Tin Moe Swe charged for aborted rape case against Gyapu at PVA on September 8. PVA then gave a lesson to Gyapu for his drinking habit and attempting to rape other people’s wife. He finally promised not to do it again and paid the fine to her as well.

Ma Khin Zarchi (30) came to PVA with the injuries and appealed to intervene her husband’s violent attacks like punching and kickings against her. PVA immediately sent her to the hospital and warned the husband to stop the domestic violence once and for all. PVA let him sign the promisory note agreeing that he understood the severe consequence of the legal action if he continued it finally.

Ma Cho Cho (24) had reported to PVA citing her husband Ko Zaw aka Ah Kyikong pressed her to engage in the prostitution business and took all the money for drinking alcohol that led him to beat her up to bleed frequently whenever he got drunk. She also claimed that by beating her up every nights, he also refused to take responsibility for her two months pregnancy with him. She finally reported to PVA for the intervention in this regard on June 24, 2011.

In her claim, her four month pregnancy was aborted due to his severe beating six months ago.

PVA brought Ko Zaw to the office educating him to stop doing the inappropriate and unethical actions against his wife. It also warned him for the legal action against him if he continued forcing the wife to engage in the prostitution business and acting violent against the wife in the future. He finally signed the promissory note to end his wrongdoings.

A couple residing behind a steam-room place in Mae Sot had an argument over the lost of their bicycle. The argument ended up with a fist fight that caused the wife with serious eye damage. According to the report, the husband named Ko Nyi Nyi punched the wife named Ma Khine Khine Soe in the eye. Due to the non-stop bleedinngs in the eye, she was rushed to student hospital for the treatment. The wife later came to PVA office for the divorce claiming she couldn’t even dare to go back home on November 23, 2011.

PVA had conducted a hearing for the couple who were married for more than ten years with three children. PVA finally concluded that the husband’s anger management issue was the only responsible for such violent action against the wife over a minor problem. Therefore, PVA gave a lesson to the husband how important a husband’s role controlling the anger and patiently leading the family in order to create a happy family in the society. Later, both partes were signed a promissory note for getting along well in the future by PVA.
